Northern Michigan Dragway once again had another great turnout for this past Weekend’s events. Friday Night was the 3rd Night Moves of the Season with over 50 totals entries. Night Moves is Heads-Up Format Race where racers compete against others of a similar Estimated Time (E.T.) on the Pro Tree. Night Moves is similar to After Hours Street Drags events where you can run whatca brung but your vehicles do not need to be street legal. Both After Hours Street Drags and Night Moves are Great events to have fun and are a affordable way to find out what your car can. Our next After Hours Street Drags event is Friday August 12 and the next Night Moves is Friday August 26.

Saturday Night was the 9th. Full Bracket Race Points event of the season and the best attended event of the season so far with over 250 adult pit passes sold with an estimated 50 – 75 children pit passes and over 60 total driver entries. In the Early Gamblers Race, Eric Johnson of Onekama in his ’85 Daytona took the win over Rick LaRocque of Beulah in his ’00 Mustang. What started out as Hot Summer Day, by evening had cooled down to perfect race condition before the start of eliminations. Around the end of 2nd round of eliminations the Fireworks in Kaleva began. Once that round was finished up a break was taken from racing action for those in attendance to enjoy another awesome Kaleva Days Firework show above the treeline. 12 year old Nathan Lane of Fife Lake won the Junior Bracket over 15 year old Drew Buozis of Hart. In Bracket I John ‘Hoot’ Gibson of Charlevoix in his ’69 Nova took the win over Bud Roof of East Jordan and his ’85 Toyota. Bracket II saw Rick LaRocque take the win over Bill Fluette of Interlochen in his 86 Monte Carlo SS. Bracket III saw a rematch of May 20th’s Final Round with Phil Gunther of Beulah in his ’79 Camaro this time taking the win over Donnie Heinzer of Manistee in his ’95 S-10. In Pro Trophy a pair of Muffle Man Mustangs facing off with Gary Rank II of Manistee and his ’88 Mustang taking the over Mark VanDerMoon of Cadillac in his ’88 Mustang. Street Trophy was Kevin Wood of Manistee in his ’70 Javelin over Mike Smith of Ludington in his ’90 Lumina. Finishing off the night with the Late Gamblers Race was Aaron Shackelford of Manistee with his ’98 Lumina over Joe Osga of Fife Lake and his ’57 Chevy.
Many first timers at Northern Michigan Dragway commented on how friendly everyone is and cannot wait to return. Most on hand are now preparing to return for Mopars against the World in 2 weeks. This year is the 14th. Annual Mopars against the World at Northern Michigan Dragway is the largest event of the season. This year’s event has an estimated total prize amount $20,000 to be awarded during the weekend including the $5,000 top prize for Bracket II on Saturday July 30th. This has become a cannot miss event for many racers and race fans, with racers expected from all over Michigan and maybe some from Indiana and even Soo Saint Marie, Ontario. The format will pit Chrysler Makes against competing makes of cars and score will kept based on total round for bragging rights. The Mopars have dominated many of the years. Come to see who will win the top prizes and who will win bragging rights ‘Mopars’ or ‘The World’.  Mopars against the World starts off Friday July 29th with Time Trials at 5pm and Eliminations at 8pm. Friday’s Adult Pit pass will be $12 or $20 for the Weekend and Children (ages 8-13) $5 each day. $1,500 to win in Bracket I and Bracket II, other classes available will be Pro & Street Trophy and Juniors. Mopars continues Saturday July 30th. with Time Trials at 5pm and Eliminations at 8pm. Saturday’s Adult Pit Pass is $12 and Children (ages 8-13) $5. $1,500 to win in Bracket I and $5,000 to win in Bracket II, other classes available will be Pro & Street Trophy and Juniors.
