NEW TRACK RECORD SET AT NMD!!
9/27/08
Kaleva-
The "Night Moves" event on September was another rained-out event after time trials were completed, finishing an imperfect season of Night Moves competition - 7 of 8 events were rained out and one event was completed on a rainy Saturday in which the weather cleared just long enough to get the event in the books.
Maybe the name "Night Moves" was destined for rainy nights. Based
on the song by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, which the lyrics read:
"We felt the lightning, And we waited
on the thunder
Waited on the thunder... I awoke last night to the sound of thunder
How far off I sat and wondered..."
However, there was additional thunder on this particular Saturday night
during the time trials. The "Dixie Hustler" 1963 Corvette of Jason
Icenhower from West Bloomfield was on hand to make some testing runs.
On his first pass, at 6:38 p.m., the "Hustler" ripped off a pass that the log
recorded as follows:
.068 reaction (Pro Tree)
1.075 60 foot
3.022 330 foot
4.658 1/8 mile E.T.
141.27 mph
A NEW TRACK E.T. and MPH RECORD for Doorslammers!
Pass #2 was an hour later at 7:36 p.m. With his transbrake failing to
operate, he foot pedaled the following run:
1.150 60 foot
3.169 330 foot
4.838 1/8 mile E.T.
145.83 mph
NEW MPH RECORD!
Icenhower had some great praise for the NMD race track as he had his picture taken in the Leonard Lindeman Memorial Winners' Circle. "..This track is as good as any track I've been to across the country. Hooks great, smooth like glass. I'd have re-set the E.T. record on that second pass if my transbrake would have been working. The Vette likes to have a full-power launch or else it doesn't handle as well. I look forward to coming back and possible bringing some of my SuperCharged Warrior racers with me."
NMD is looking into plans to have a 4 car match race event date in the 2009 season. Chances are, the event won't be called "Night Moves" though. Congratulations Jason Icenhower, new track record holder for doorslammers!
